Manawatu held off Bay of Plenty to claim a nervy 29-27 win

With 10 minutes to go the Turbos were leading 29-15 and pressing for a four-endeavor bonus point.

But they failed to cross the whitewash again and it was the Steamers, who have still to win this season, who culminated vigorously as front-rowers Mike Kainga and Joe Royal dived over in the final four minutes to earn their side two bonus points.

Manawatu had several endeavor-scoring chances in the remaining 25 minutes but were just not clinical enough. They wasted good field position with a poor lineout drive and then failed to capitalise on a scrum 15 metres from the Steamers line.

Nehe Milner-Skudder was a standout for Manawatu. He set up endeavors for Nathan Tudreu and Antonio Kiri Kiri as he caused the Steamers defence plenty of headaches.

The Turbos other endeavor went to Tudreu's brother Newton while first-five Otere Black chimed in with four penalties and a conversion
