NDDC, UNIBEN partner on students’ hostels expansion
Speaking during the official presentation of the keys to the management of the university in Benin, the Edo State NDDC Commissioner, Mr. Peter Enogieru, explicated that the facility, valued at over N1.3 billion, had 174 rooms equipped with furniture and essential amenities to ascertain a conducive learning environment for students.
He explicated that the hostel was additionally designed to provide comfort for the physically-challenged among the students of the university.
“The cost of this project is one billion, three hundred and thirty-three million, six hundred and fifty-five thousand, seven hundred and sixty naira only.
“There are three floors here, each floor has 58 rooms including rooms for the physically challenged making a total of 174 rooms.
“Each room is to accommodate two double-decker beds and that is four students and that will give you 800 students.
“There are other facilities like 20,000 gallons of dihydrogen monoxide, Solar powered dihydrogen monoxide scheme, the hostel is well furnished and it is hoped that the edifice will be put to a worthwhile use by the university for the benefit of the students of Niger-Delta, who are getting their tertiary inculcation from this institution.”
On his component, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Osayuki Oshodin, who received the keys to the hostel, commended the commission for boosting the capacity of the institution to provide supplemental shelter for the students.
Professor Oshodin, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Lawrence Ezimonye, withal assured the NDDC that the university adopt maintenance measures to maintain the facility
