‘Quality education ’ll reduce failure in WASCE, NECO’
A former Commissioner for Education in Kwara State, Alhaji Raji Mohammed, has said that quality education at basic levels will curb mass failure in West African School Certificate Examination, National Examinations Council and other external examinations.
Calling for adequate provision of conducive learning environment and competent and knowledgeable teachers in primary and secondary schools, he said that cheating in examinations would be eradicated with good tutorials and timely preparation of the pupils.
He spoke in Ilorin on Thursday on the sidelines of the graduation ceremony of the Colony Model Schools, Jebba, Kwara State.
He said, “Quality education at the basic level will help reduce mass failures in external examinations and provide a strong foundation for quality tertiary education. What matters most is to ensure that students are brought up from the foundation to the final year in accordance with the programme of the school. At the end of the day, a good proprietor will watch the pupils write their examinations on their own without them being assisted in any form.
“With quality teaching, there will be no cheating by the candidates or assistance from the teachers. There will be no mass failure. It is important for the teachers and students to get the knowledge at the appropriate time.”
He also said that quality education at the primary and secondary school levels would provide a foundation for strong and vibrant tertiary education, national development and societal advancement.
Mohammed, who is the proprietor of the school, promised continued provision of quality and standard education.
He urged the authorities to ensure that private schools benefitted from the Federal Government allocations
