Open University Student Starts War Against Social Vices In Ibadan
A sociopreneur and English Language of National Open University of Nigeria, Dauda Muideen Lanre, has initiated a social campaign against social vices in Nigerian primary.
The campaign, tagged 'Redeem Our Youth Mobile Seminar' (ROYMS), aims to promote self motivation and development among primary and secondary school pupils.
ROYMS held its last seminar on the 4th of June at The Great Royal Group of School situated at Abiola area Moniya, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Speaking with Student Pulse after the a seminar, Lanre said the ROYMS team is determined to help divorce Nigerian youth from social vices.
"We are doing this project to change youths for the better in order to give back to society instead of taking from it by encouraging for self motivation and personal development ," he said.
Lanre said the scope of ROYMS has been limited, operating only in Ibasan at the moment, because of the difficulty of sources funds.
"For now, we are using our personal resources to take care of the project
But he told Student Pulse that there are plans to cover the whole country in the nearest future as he seeks partnerships with
"We are looking forward hopefully to achieve world class standard by partnering with like minded organizations in order to make Nigeria, and indeed the world, a better place," Lanre said.
Mapping The Future
Lanre, who is also a published poet, urged students across the country to make judicious use of their time and pursue academic excellence instead of engaging in vices that will jeopardize their promising future ambitions .
"Anyone can have an enviable future if such a person eschews vices while still a youth," he said.
"Is is imperative that the youth see the future through eyes of education because education is a major key that can unlock the locked asset of society."
Another ROYMS event has been scheduled for August at another Ibadan school.
