US says American held in Syria has been freed
The U.s. government says an American held prisoner for around two years by an al-Qaida-interfaced gathering in Syria has been discharged.
The Obama organization recognizes the man as Peter Theo Curtis of Massachusetts.
National security counselor Susan Rice says Curtis is presently protected outside of Syria.
Secretary of State John Kerry says Curtis was held by an al-Qaida-connected activist gathering battling the administration of Syrian President Bashar Assad.
The Obama organization discharged no insights about the circumstances of his kidnapping or his discharge.
The news comes days after the Islamic State gathering posted a web feature demonstrating the homicide of James Foley, an American writer who was grabbed in 2012 while coating the Syrian uprising.
The gathering said the slaughtering was in striking back for U.s.
