New election timetable not to suit presidency –INEC
The INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, said this on Thursday in Enugu at a workshop on "Compelling Coverage of the 2015 General Elections," sorted out by the Nigerian Press Council for writers from the South-East zone.
Jega, who was spoken to by his Chief Press Secretary, Kayode Idowu, said, "Let me restate here that the claim by a few government officials that the commission changed the grouping of the 2015 decisions, when contrasted and 2011, is essentially untrue.
"In 2011, we had the National Assembly decisions initially, the presidential race next, and the governorship and also state get together races last. There have been calls from a few quarters that Nigeria ought to hold all decisions on one day yet that is unrealistic now, so we chose to hold national races on one day , and state decisions on an alternate day in view of the overwhelming difficulties of having all decisions on a solitary day."
He advised government officials against thrilling remarks that were equipped for creating estrangement in the country. He additionally gave confirmations that the 2015 surveys would be more trustworthy as the Commission had stopped all the provisos that influenced the validity of past activities.
As indicated by INEC, the timetable for the surveys booked for February 14, 2015 (Presidential and National Assembly); and February 28, 2015 (Governorship and State Assembly) individually, won't be messed around with once more.
The constituent body reaffirmed its prior stance that no one would be permitted to vote without the Permanent Voter Card.
