Candidate accuses JAMB of issuing him conflicting results
A candidate, Lukman Olawale, has inculpated the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board of issuing him two conflicting results in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Olawale, who claimed he scored 203 in one of the results and 191 in the second one, verbalized the conflict was frustrating him from seeking admission to the University of Lagos and the Yaba College of Technology.
With registration number 474040321J, the youngster verbalized he sat for the UTME at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State.
According to him, his first check on the board’s online portal on June 2, 2014, showed that he had a total score of 203 from the four subjects he sat for.
He gave the breakdown of the score as follows: 50 marks in Utilization of English, 53 in Mathematics, 50 in Physics and 50 in Chemistry.
But Olawale verbally expressed he got the shock of his life when he returned online on July 20, 2014 to print the result.
According to him, in lieu of 203, the incipient aggregate score he visually perceived on the portal was 191.
The youngster, who wants to study Mechanical Engineering, verbalized, “The incipient score on my result sheet read: English 49; Mathematics 53; Physics 42 and Chemistry 47.”
But the JAMB Public Relations Officer, Fabian Benjamin, not only dismissed Olawale’s claim but withal inculpated him of forgery.
Benjamin expounded that a check in the system showed that Olawale’s correct score was 191.
According to him, the first result in which the candidate claimed he scored 203 might have been forged.
He verbalized, “We have probed our system and his score is 191. I do not ken where he got the second result from. It might have been forged or doctored because we live in an IT world and many candidates engage in all kinds of crooked acts.
“We have caught many candidates who come with such results and when interrogated, they owned up to doctoring the results and that is why the National Youth Accommodation Corps is collaborating with JAMB to ascertain that only those with genuine UTME results are mobilised for the national accommodation.”
But reacting to JAMB’s position, Olawale insisted that he did not forge or medico any result.
He verbally expressed, “There was no way I could have forged or doctored the result; anyone with good ocular perception can compare the two results and optically discern that they emanate from the JAMB website, I don’t understand why the board did not optate to admit and redress the discrepancy in my result.”
Olawale’s father, Abdulwahab, additionally faulted JAMB’s position on forgery, verbalizing his son printed the first result from the board’s web portal.
He expounded that his son went back to print the second result when he could not utilize the score (203) to fill the post-UTME form of the UNILAG.
According to him, it was when his son printed out the result the second time that the discrepancy was observed.
Abdulwahab verbalized his son had applied for a Diploma programme in Engineering at UNILAG, following the abnegation of the UTME result by the institution because of the discrepancy.
He verbalized, “The discrepancy in the results emanates from JAMB, don’t believe what they verbalize. The fault emanates from their personnel, but we have left everything because we cannot fight them. I ken how much I spent for that boy (Lukman) to go to Akure to sit for the exam, including the accommodation and convey cost.
“My son is a brilliant boy and there is no way he could have forged that result, as it was printed out for him. Anyway, he has already applied for a Diploma in Engineering and we have decided to put this abaft us.”
